The nature of worship

To your point:

Luke 11:28

But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

As you imply, the best way to worship is to obey God’s commandments.

Therefore, the short answer is we are commanded to pray and to sing praises!

Paul told us to pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

pray without ceasing,

Also to sing spiritual songs and hymns to one another.

Ephesians 5:19

speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

For the longer answer- why?

We should do our best, as you say. But apart from God, we can do nothing. Our “best” is futile apart from God working. Prayer reminds us of that. That we depend on God for everything. It’s an act of humility, saying “God, apart from you, I can do nothing, please work through my actions!” Pray every day! Without ceasing!

As far as worship goes, songs help us remember the words. Also God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3 KJV).
